Year 12 Media Studies students saw an exclusive preview of the new Steven Knight BBC Drama, This Town, this week at a special screening in Birmingham, followed by a Q&A session with the Peaky Blinders writer/producer and other TV producers.
Students saw the episode before its world premiere and its general release on Easter Sunday, and two Sixth Formers, Lexie and Amelie, were interviewed live on BBC Radio straight afterwards about their views on the drama.
The new BBC drama is set in Birmingham and Coventry in the early 1980s and explores issues of race, class and politics through the lens of four young characters and their relationships with each other, their families, community and with music. The discussion after the episode saw TV industry insiders offering writing and employment tips. Following that, there was a live link up with BBC Radio C&W and the Myton students were asked to articulate their views on the show. No spoilers but the episode got a big thumbs up from Myton staff and students.
Head of Media and Film Studies Mr Lowe said, “This was a brilliant opportunity for our students. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the trip possible (you know who you are). The students were suitably inspired by arguably Britain’s greatest living screenwriter, and were a credit to Myton school.”
